Abstract:
- Medical advances of Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) have made screening safer and more accurate at estimating the possibility of having a child with Down syndrome, which may cause more pregnancies to be terminated due to this diagnosis. It is therefore important that literature regarding screening is not from a one-sided perspective. Through studying documents following the implementation of NIPT through content analysis, I found that in terms of content, language and accessibility, documents were found to be inadequate, inaccurate, and biased. Future document writing and policy making therefore needs to ensure patients receive extensive, unbiased, and accessible information, in addition to including individuals with Down syndrome in screening debates.
